'One of the most beautiful regions of the country -The Yorkshire Dales - is the backdrop for this sensitively shot programme tracing the origins of building dry stone walls. Demonstrations by master craftsman Waller Stephen Harrison are given on the skills and techniques of wall building, with presenter Dylan Winter sitting in on one of his courses. We also see how these ancient enclosures are a work of art in themselves and have influenced one famous modern artist, Andy Goldsworthy.

This programme draws on examples of walling from Scotland, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and south Wales, showing regional variations and associated flora and fauna.
